RED JADE

Glass & Metal Charm Swap

I cut out the charm from 24 gauge copper and used Vitreous Enamel (Powdered glass) to add the design. I made the Byzantine design chain bracelet from 18 gauge aluminium jump rings.

Adventures in New Mediums

The Lily pendant is a piece I carved in wax and had it cast in Nu-gold (Yellow Bronze). The next step is to refine the piece and have a mold made for multiple reproductions in gold or silver. This is another new process for me. I took scrap gold and melted it down then rolled and forged it into this cuff. An Anniversary gift for my husband.

Here is the carousel with the multicolor tourmaline chain I made.

This years entry

My entry for the 2009 Student Art Show is a working carousel. There is a fan knob on the bottom of the box that you can turn and the carousel, the crown and the Mystic topaz on top of the box all turn. The door knocker type rings on the side of the box is where you attach the removable multi color tourmaline chain that I'm still making.

The entire piece was made from scratch. It is by far the most difficult and intricate piece I have ever endeavored to make. There is a miniature cameo in the middle of the carousel. The box is a 1 1/2" square.

On February 13, 2009 my Mother and best friend passed from this earthly plain. She was well loved by many. I will celebrate her life everyday and I know that she will always be with us if not in body than in spirit.

I LOVE YOU MOM AND WILL MISS YOU EVERY DAY UNTIL WE CAN BE TOGETHER AGAIN!

2009

Well it's here with the promise of things new.
Here in the USA it means a new president. YEAH!
It will be the 30th year that my husband and I have been together and God willing will be the 100th year that my Mother has been on this planet.

I also have plans to expand my jewelry business and to look for some galleries or maybe a museum to exhibit my Art Jewelry. I have some exciting pieces that I have been working on and some designs that I've sketched up that are receiving some interest. Fingers crossed!

I also hope to do some traveling. I have not left NYC since my leg was paralyzed. It seems it was not the only thing that got paralyzed. I closed up in many ways and fear crept into my life stopping me from doing things that were not affected by my condition. My leg became a good excuse and many would not question it. There is still things I can't do but I'm going to try to do the things I know I could do if I just tried.

I hope the new year brings all of you out there whatever it is you need to enjoy your life. Have a happy, healthy year and do something unexpected you might have fun!

Out of MY Mind

This brooch is made from sterling, brass, fresh water pearls, a working wind up watch and glass. The presentation box is decorated wood, bamboo, plastic pearls and glass. The round piece in the head opens so that the watch can be wound and you can see the gears (her brain) moving.

For some reason the round piece that protects the watch looks very over powering in these shots. It's a bit more subtle in person.

I made this piece to enter in a juried show. If accepted it will be exhibited in May and June here in NYC.

I would like to thank Lisa Spiros for all her help and guidance and Judy Neubert for the watch that went into her head. I'd also like to thank Amber Dawn for inspiring me to be creative.

Back again so soon

Something new for me. I've been playing with initial jewelry and came up with these two pieces. The first necklace is sterling with Carnelian stones, the initial is in brass. This second piece is done in nickel silver with a cobalt blue cats eye stone and brass initial. I thought I'd try something more masculine and decided on the dog tag style.

HAPPY SPRING

We made it through another winter. YAY!

I've finally got my studio up and running but not quite finished yet. Here are a few more goodies I made. There are several more on my bench that I am finishing up and should be posting very soon. Keep an eye out I'm on a creative frenzy.
This is a pendant that I was trying some wire wrapping out on.

The following 2 pair of earrings are sterling silver. The first pair has sandstone beads, the second pair has freshwater pearls.

Happy 2008

Happy New Year

Hope everyone had a great Holiday Season. Time to get back to work and show you some new stuff.

These are a pair of sterling and Swarovski crystal hoops . They were and Xmas present I made for Amber.

The red pendant is my submission for a Swap I'm involved in. The glass hearts are similar to Murano glass.

Until my studio is set up I've been trying my hand at some wire techniques so I'm working with a lot of glass and gemstone beads. It's fun but I can't wait to get my torch up and running again.

I got a new Paragon Kiln for Xmas so I will be working with some new materials in the new year. I'm planning on doing some PMC pieces, some enamiling and maybe try some glass fusing. Keep a look out for my new goodies it should be a FUN year of creating ahead.

It's been a long time!

Haven't been here in a long time. Many things have been going on but the most disruptive of all of those things is I moved. I have finally gotten settled enough to start working on my jewelry again so I will be back on a more regular basis. I will be posting a few new pieces after Christmas because if I post them now the people who are getting them for Christmas won't be surprised. So Merry Christmas to all and please come back often to visit.

Hi!

Hello I haven't checked in for a while, school is out and since I don't have a studio to work in yet I haven't been working on any new pieces. I have a few good ones planned though so starting in September I should be back on track. I have been playing with my Photoshop program designing boxes for my jewelry and charm swaps and working on a scrapbook for my Mom's 98th Birthday. Hope to have some pics of some of this stuff up soon. Meanwhile, I just thought I would drop in a pic of Mom & Dad in their younger days.

Secret Places

My latest creation. This is a drawer ring. It is made from sterling silver with bezel set turquoise and yellow fiber optic stones.

I had a lot of fun making this one. I had to figure out how to construct and assemble it so that the drawer wouldn't fall out. The drawer has a little handle on it to pull the drawer out. I used 20 gauge silver sheet, 20 gauge round silver wire and 26 gauge silver bezel wire.

Driving in Manhattan

I took this picture while stopped at a red light on 3rd Avenue. Isn't the city a wonderful place? When they say you can find anything in NYC they weren't kidding. I was right behind it for about 2 miles. I'm such a New Yorker that I didn't even realize it for almost the whole ride.

I started a diet on March 5 and I weighed in today. (Drum roll).............................................

7th Quirk

I finally thought of my 7th quirk and boy am I a REAL Virgo.

I cannot send an email out with typos and live chats are very stressful because I'm afraid I'm taking too long because I have to check everything I'm typing before I send.

Between quirk 5, 6 and 7 I have realized that I am way too anal retentive.

6th Quirk

I thought of another quirk of mine to add to the earlier list.

Once I start something I have to finish it. I have a hard time putting it down. The other day I stayed up until 4:30am working on a template for my mini book charms. I become obsessed with the project and loose track of time. Sometimes I don't even stop to eat. Today I spent the whole day working on a prototype of a ring I want to make. First I made a template, then I made it with construction paper to see if the template worked and then I made the prototype out of some 36ga copper foil. Next step is to make it out of sterling silver and find a stone to set into it.

Tassel Necklaces

I thought I would add a couple of beaded pieces a while back. I've been seeing tasseled necklaces in magazines lately so here are two of mine. The first is made from garnet druk beads. The second is made from jet crystal beads.

One More Charm for the Swap

This is one of my favorites. I took a sheet of steel and cut out a circle then cut out the moon and star out of brass and soldered it to the steel. I drilled a hole for the eye and set the Swarovski crystal into it. Now I can pack up the charms and send them off.

I'm on to my next project. I'm thinking of doing some more mini books. I start a new class next Tuesday it is an abridged semester. I'm taking an Independent Study Course so I get to come up with the project that I'm going to work on. I better get my sketch book out.

2 More for the Charm Swap

This charm is made from copper sheet with wire soldered onto it and a stone and brass element. This one is NOT my favorite. I guess I'll probably work on some others before I make my final choice.

The front of this charm has a sterling bezel soldered onto the oval brass piece cut from sheet. There is a paua shell set into the bezel.

This is the back of the charm with a heart element that was soldered onto it.

I've Been Tagged

I was tagged by Amber Dawn and I have to post 7 quirky things about myself. So far I have only come up with 5 so I'll post them and come back later when I can think of the last 2.

First quirk- I like tattoos. I have 4 of them. My biggest is visible in my picture to the right. I will probably be getting at least 1 more.
Second quirk- I wear hot pink cat's eye eyeglasses.
Third quirk- I have a pink streak in my hair.
Fourth quirk- I dress my dog up when we go out. I especially like to dress him up on Holloween in costumes that I make for him.
Fifth quirk- Everything has a place and I have to put everything back in it's place. Unfortunately, I have officially run out of places. I need to move or rent a studio space to work. Anybody out there got a space for me to rent??? (NYC)
6 & 7 to come.......

Charming Purses

I made these little bags to put my charms in for the Soldered charm swap that I am currently participating in. Some of the charms below are examples of what will go inside. I will also stuff the bag with colorful tissue paper and ribbons.

Metal Charms

These are a few charms that I'm making for a soldered charm swap. The photo on the left is the front and the photo on the right is the back of the outer 2. The smiley face is set in a sterling silver bezel and is not glued. The key hole is soldered on and the back of the charms are all soldered on pieces.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This charm is both soldered and the center piece is glued with jewelry glue. Not something I like to use in my pieces. I like to try and make all my connections when using metal by soldering or cold connections.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

These charms are all made with cold connections that means that they are attached using rivets or screws, etc. no solder or glue.

Latest and "So Far" Greatest

My newest creation. This sterling silver ring with garnet, ruby and pink sapphire cabochons is my most ambitious endeavor so far. I had a lot of fun making it from scratch. I started out with sheet silver to make the ring base then fabricated the bezels from silver wire that I milled flat. After soldering the bezels onto the ring I cut out the base around the bezels so that all you would see is the bezels.

Things are looking up

The weather seems to be getting better and I've been able to get some work done.

This is a Ginko cuff bracelet I made from copper. This is the very first thing I ever designed and fabricated in Metalsmithing class.

This is a band ring made of sterling silver with a pearl.

This is a sterling silver pendant I made last night for Drummer Tony Verderosa. The design is of his logo.

Enough of the winter already

HELP!!! I'm being held captive by the weather. By the end of February I have about all I can stand of the winter. March comes and even though I know it's the screwiest month of the year I'm always hopeful. It's snowing today. It's suppose to be bad too. So that means I'm stuck in my little one bedroom Manhattan closet until it melts. I long for the day I can grab my little doggy, put him in his basket on my walker and we can go sit in the park. I long for trees that are full of rich green leaves instead of bare twigs. Sunny skies warming my skin.
This picture was taken downstairs from my apartment in April 2003.

Tuesday, March 13, 2007

I found another Polymer clay pendant that I made that's kind of fun.

Memories

Back in the 80's I started writing lyrics with the hope that my husband (he wasn't my husband at the time) would write music for. I have a couple of notebooks full of lyrics now and I pulled one of the oldest ones out and found a tune that I think is pretty good but then it had a lot of meaning to me at the time. I've decided to share it with the world myself since it has never been made into a song (yet?).

How Could Love Be Wrong

Verse 1-

I know what we have is a wonderful thing
Whenever we're together my heart starts to sing
It will be the two of us forever I have no doubt
So what are they all talking about
Chorus-
How could love be wrong
Especially if what we feel is so strong
Together we will stay
No matter what they say
Because there is no way
Our love could be wrong
Verse 2-
Why do they tell us that our love can't survive
Cause in our hearts we know it will stay alive
The problem's all in their heads
I know it's not for real
They don't have any idea
Of how we really feel
Bridge-
If we could just leave this place
But there's no place to go
Everywhere it's the same
Everyone thinks they know
We'll just have to show them now
We've made a lover's vow
Together we'll show them how
Our Love Can't Be Wrong.
(PS- We've been together for 28 years)

New Pics old pieces

I took a few pics of some of my old beaded stuff that I've been hording away to one day do a craft fair.
I put them in the car in case anyone wanted to see them and then forgot about them. So I pulled them out and took some pictures of a few pieces.
The red and jet crystal piece is a chocker with a heart and arrow toggle clasp.
Then there is a jet and amythest AB choker with jet cut beads and lavender teardrop beads
dangling from chain.
Third piece are faux pearls with turquoise chip beads necklace and earrings.
Forth pic is beaded bangles in jet, amber, cobalt blue, and light blue.

Snow Day

What a drag it snowed so I couldn't get out and I had a class today. We are working on an eternity ring in sterling and I'm using garnets, rubies and pink saphires. Hopefully things will clear up and I'll be able to make it to a workshop, I already paid for, on Friday. It's a one day thing and we are going to learn how to make a Hollow Lock and Key clasp. I'm psyched.

Mini book swap

This is my first attempt at making books but I thought it would be fun to join this swap (see ICE link). Amber Dawn is a saint to sponsor all these swaps because it's a lot of work and she is not always well. This is also my first attempt at shooting pictures using my new Portable photo lighting studio. I'm not crazy about the colors but I think I know what I did wrong. The size of the actual books is approximately 3/4"x 7/8". So far I only put anything other than blank pages in 1 book. I'm trying to figure out what to put into the other books.

New Piece

I've got a new piece for you guys to see. It's a brooch I made for my good friend Amber Dawn. I put it in a shadow box so that when you are not wearing it you can display it.

No More Excuses

I ordered a tabletop photo studio kit from Hammacher Schlemmer to shoot products with. It comes with lights, 2 backdrops, compact light box and an integrated diffuser screen and tripod that folds up into a little storage/carrying case. Now I won't have an excuse for taking bad photos of my pieces. It also means I have to start shooting all my pieces.

Well I hope all who look on will enjoy them. Feel free to comment I love to meet new people and hope to become part of the vast creative community out there.

I also want to thank all the wonderfully creative artist that were part of Amber Dawn's Charm swap. The charms I received were exquisite little works of art. I don't know what to do with them because I don't want to separate them from the packaging which are also creative pieces unto themselves. I am presently keeping them in a beautiful wooden cigar box that is on display for everyone to check out and enjoy.

VALENTIES DAY

Boy do I have a great husband. Today is Valentines Day and he gave me a very beautiful, mushy card, a big box of Godiva Chocolates and a Ty stuffed dog that looks like Mugsy. The fur is made of silk. What a sweetie pie guy.

More

I'm still working on my lighting but here are a couple more Sterling & Stained Glass pendants. The first is a Hibiscus flower with irredescent red glass, the second is a leaf design with an opague marbled green glass, the third is a pendant that I made for Rachael Ray with red glass.

Celtic Cross

This sterling silver and stained glass pendant was made as a birthday present for my friend Kathy. It's about 1 1/2 inches high. I have a couple more of this type of pendant that I will post as soon as I photograph them. I'm just figuring out how to do that.

Learning to take product shots & other thoughts

I guess if I want to show my work on this blog I'm going to need to brush up on taking photos of my pieces. I look at other blogs and salivate at the quality of the photos. I hope I can do the pieces justice. I would like to share my passion for my work with as many people as I can so start looking out for it in the near future.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My dear friend Amber is not feeling well and I am very upset because she is such a special person. I often feel that Divine providence came into play when I met her. She has been a great source of inspiration and an incredible talent in her own right. My thoughts are most certainly with her and her husband at this time.

Until I can figure out how to do a little decorating around here I thought I'd include a picture of my cutie pie (Mugsy Malone) to spiff things up around here a bit. He is a 3 year old Maltese.

I'm stuck on trying to figure out how to change my header. I designed a new title but the settings area where I can edit the box doesn't seem to allow anything more than text????

Well back to the drawing board!
